There is beauty to be found in things that are really quite ordinary. There are simply wildflowers that, when viewed in the proper light, appear extraordinary. Even a puddle can look amazing when viewed from the right angle. You probably wouldn’t want to drink from the puddle, as that would be gross, but it can still look very cool.
Here are twelve examples of relatively ordinary things and situations that might leave you just a bit surprised, or maybe even shocked.
1. The Aloe Plant
This is a picture of a very specific type of aloe plant, commonly referred to as the spiral aloe. It is unique for its appearance and also due to the fact it comes from Lesotho, which is a small kingdom in southern Africa.
It is a pretty small place, relatively speaking, but more than 2 million people live there.
The capital of the kingdom is a city known as Maseru, which is relatively well known due to tourism. Decades ago, it was known for its casinos.
2. The Pepper
I have seen a lot of peppers, but I have never seen one like this. How did it end up white on one side and green on the other?
There are over 1,000 species of peppers, and they have been used to season food for over 10,000 years. Certain species are used in medicine, as well as for other reasons. For example, the root of kava can be used as a sedative. It can also be used to treat anxiety and as an anesthetic.
Peppers can be dangerous, though. It is believed that the hottest pepper in the world is the “Carolina Reaper”. It is hundreds of times hotter than a jalapeño. A man once ended up in the hospital due to eating one. Just touching one can burn your skin.
3. The Tree and the Roots
I like how the tree’s roots are growing along with the curves in these tiles. That’s pretty neat. I have never seen anything like that before.
Trees can be truly fascinating. In particular, I like the redwoods, which are most common in northern California. Some of them can be truly enormous. They are the tallest and largest trees on the planet. They can also live for thousands of years, which is impressive.
A lot of trees can and have lived for thousands of years, though. In Longwood, Florida, there was a tree known as “The Senator”. It was destroyed in 2012 as the result of arson. It was believed to be around 3,500 years old.
In Nevada, there was a tree known as Prometheus. It was cut down in the 1960s, but it was believed to be over 4,800 years old.
The oldest tree in the world, which can be found in California, is believed to be over 5,000 years old. It is still alive.
4. The Balloon and the Nail
I have no idea how this happened, and I have no idea why this happened. You would think the nail would have punctured the balloon, but it did not. Why would anyone nail a balloon to the wall?
The image is a curious, interesting one. It is really kind of beautiful in its own way. I am glad someone decided to take a photo.
Naturally, when you think of balloons, you think of balloon animals. I have tried to make a few over the years. I was never able to make one that looked like anything resembling an actual animal. I would have made a terrible clown. I am afraid of clowns, though, like many people are. Therefore, it was never a career I seriously considered.
When you think of clowns, you might think of “The Joker”, who is a supervillain who routinely fights Batman. That character has been around since 1940, and he is Batman’s archenemy. He has been portrayed by many actors over the years, including Cesar Romero and Heath Ledger. The character has also been voiced by Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” films.
5. The Hedgehog
This cute little hedgehog lost its quills. I have no idea how that happened.
This hedgehog is nowhere near as adorable as everyone’s favorite hedgehog, who just happens to be “Sonic the Hedgehog”, who has been the main character in several video games. He has been entertaining video gamers since 1991. Since then, the series has grossed billions of dollars. The comic book series is also known to be the longest-running series based on a video game.
The most recent “Sonic the Hedgehog” video game was released in 2017. They’ll probably never stop making them, even if every “Sonic” game released in the last decade or so has been either terrible or sort of unoriginal. They just can’t make really great ones anymore. I don’t know why that happens to be the case. I still hold out hope, though, for a new, incredible “Sonic” game.
I used to play “Sonic” games a lot when I was a kid. Personally, I always enjoyed playing as “Tails”, who was Sonic’s sidekick. He is a fox with two tails, and he can fly as a result.
6. The Apple Stem
Believe it or not, this is an apple stem. You are just looking at it from really close up. It does not really look like you would expect, does it? Then again, I haven’t spent a lot of time examining apple stems. I don’t know anyone who does. That would be sort of a weird hobby.
Still, apples are sort of fascinating things. They are important to many religions, both past and present. They were mentioned in Greek mythology, for example. They were considered sacred to the goddess Aphrodite. She was associated with procreation, pleasure, beauty, and love. She was also associated with doves, roses, mirrors, and swans.
That goddess was an interesting character in Greek mythology. She was married to the god of blacksmiths, but she often cheated on him. One of her lovers was Ares, who was the god of war.
Thousands of years after the fall of the ancient Greek society, people are still fascinated by Aphrodite. There is even the “Church of Aphrodite”, which was founded in the late 1930s.
Technically, the founder of the religion believed in a single female deity, and he named her after the Greek goddess. Aphrodite is also associated with Wicca.
7. The Random Alley
There is nothing terribly interesting about this particular alley. If you are looking at this image and wondering if you are missing something, I assure you that you are not. It is just a random alley.
It is pretty, though, in its own unique way. It is proof that you can find beauty almost everywhere. I like the colors of the bricks, and I like the design of the door. I wonder what lies behind that door.
In case you are wondering, this particular alley is in Seattle. If you have never been to Seattle, it is definitely a city that is worth checking out. It is found in the state of Washington, and it is the largest city in that state. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. It is known for several reasons, including its musical history and the performing arts scene. Starbucks is headquartered in the city.
As many know, Seattle was also the setting of the hit sitcom ‘Frasier”, which originally aired from 1993 until 2004. There were over 260 episodes released.
“Frasier” was a spinoff of the very popular sitcom “Cheers”, and it received a lot of critical acclaim. It also won over thirty Emmy awards. The show is still regularly watched, actually.
In the United States, it is currently available on Netflix and airs on various cable stations. It will probably be available to watch for decades to come. It can also be seen in other countries, of course, including the United Kingdom, Finland, and Australia.
8. The Strange-Looking Orange
Believe it or not, this is an orange. It looks like a grapefruit, sure, but it is definitely an orange. It is called a Cara cara orange, and it was discovered in Venezuela. It is known for being seedless and sweet, with a complex flavor.
In general, oranges are delicious, and they are great for you. Most of them are produced in Brazil, although many are grown in both China and India.
Oranges are good for you for a couple of different reasons. Most importantly, perhaps, they are a great source of vitamin C, which is an essential nutrient and also an antioxidant. It is possible that the vitamin prevents the common cold, but this has never been conclusively proven. There is evidence that it reduces the duration of a cold.
9. The Oil and the Pan
According to the story, oil was poured in a pan by a guy; it just happened to form this hexagon shape. Even if the story sounds like it may have been made up, I am choosing to believe it. Stranger things have definitely happened.
I am hoping that the oil in this picture is olive oil, which is the best kind of oil. It may be high in calories and fat, but it helps make a great salad dressing. There is also evidence that suggests olive oil is good for one’s heart. It might also play a role in preventing the development of cancer.
10. The Kiwi Flower
Kiwi flowers are beautiful, and kiwifruit is delicious. There is nothing unusual about this picture—it is just pretty.
I did not know that the majority of kiwifruit is grown in China; for some reason that came as a surprise to me, but it shouldn’t be a surprise. In fact, it is native to China, and it is the country’s national fruit. The cultivation ended up spreading from China to New Zealand in the early 1920s. It became popular with Americans and British when soldiers were stationed in New Zealand during the Second World War.
11. The Penguin Egg
This is a picture of an egg, but it is not from a chicken. It is from a penguin, and it has been hard boiled.
I am not sure why anyone would do this. I wouldn’t even know how to get a penguin egg if I wanted one.
People do eat penguin eggs, though. From what I understand, they taste a bit fisher than chicken eggs do when hard boiled, which makes sense when you think about it. People also eat penguin. From what I understand based on my limited research, most people don’t think it tastes very good, although I did see it compared to veal by one person. Regardless, I wouldn’t try penguin meat unless I was literally starving to death. I also refuse to try snails. I know a lot of people enjoy eating them, but I just can’t bring myself to give them a shot.
