For those unfamiliar with the actress or the adult industry in general, Olivia Nova was an adult film star who was represented by LA Direct Models. She was 20 years of age at the time of her passing.
Born in Minnesota, Nova’s body was found in Las Vegas on Sunday night, the 7th of January.
The cause of her death is currently unknown.
LA Direct Models, who had only represented Nova for a short period of time, was classy enough to offer a statement about their now-deceased star. As they put it, Olivia was a beautiful girl who also possessed a gentle and sweet personality. The firm seemed shocked by her death, saying it truly did come out of the blue.
Think what you want about the industry, but Nova was good at what she did; at the time of her death, she had been involved in the industry for less than a year, but had nonetheless earned the following of roughly 20,000 people on Twitter.
While those who aren’t particularly known for being the sentimental sort, her fans have actually expressed their sadness via social media, hoping that she rests in peace.
A friends of hers commented that Nova was “a great person”. Everyone who knew her, it seems, is in shock over the tragic loss of a young life. The loved ones are trying to figure out exactly what happened.
Back in December, Nova tweeted a message to her fans, saying that she was alone; her tweeting to her fans, she claimed, would lift her spirits.
While she didn’t spend long in the industry, she was a prolific sort, and starred in productions for eight or nine production companies.
The industry is, at the moment, understandably being pressured to offer better mental health resources to their actors and actresses. Make all of the jokes you want about the sort of people that would make the life decision to star in a movie, but the sad fact of the matter is that a number of young women who work in the industry have died lately.
For example, there’s the case of August Ames. She was only 23 years of age when she killed herself this December after what was a clear case of cyberbullying. Think what you want about exactly what, but she was accused of being homophobic because she tweeted that she was essentially ‘fired’ from a shoot because she didn’t want to work with an actor who had worked with a guy.
Even other stars felt the need to weigh in and criticize Ames for her decision. It may have been her body and therefore her choice, but she was nonetheless harassed on social media for her decision.
According to her, Ames had been molested as a young girl and was also suffering from issues related to her mental health.
Another adult film actress, known as Turi Luv, died of a drug overdose recently. She was 31, and the young woman seemed to foreshadow her death in one of the last tweets she would ever make. Another actress, who was 35 and named Shyla Stylz, died in her sleep in November. The cause of her death was also unknown.
All of these recent deaths really make us understand why the industry should probably invest a little money into the mental health of the people who choose to star in their films. There’s nothing inherently wrong, per se, about getting naked on camera, but it also isn’t the most traditional choice for people looking to make a living via the entertainment industry.
What makes Nova’s death so sad is that people who cared about her probably should have been more concerned about the young woman. After all, her death comes well less than a year after the death of her boyfriend; he apparently killed himself in April, shortly before Nova’s birthday.
There are a lot of differing opinions out there. Many people it is a sinful thing and those who watch it should be ashamed of themselves; others believe watching it can be healthy for relationships. Others really just don’t care and simply enjoy having a good time.
Regardless, if there’s a correlation between starring in films and suicide/early death, there’s a problem that needs to be addressed.
