Did You Know That A Patient In Need Of A Kidney Found…

Suffering from kidney failure is one of the worst diagnosis you could receive from your doctor. When a person named John Kim was just 23 years old he learned just that. He got diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis known as FSGS. When John reached the age of 32 both of his kidneys completely shut down. At that point only the long and tiresome dialysis sessions kept him alive.

Having in mind that as of June 2013 there are more than 115,000 people in the US waiting for vital organ transplants and there were only 15,000 kidney transplants, Kim’s odds at finding a donor were pretty slim. This is why after more than 5 years of dialysis he decided to use social media and find a donor himself. On July 26, 2013 Kim posted a heartbreaking message on his Reddit account which explained in details his predicament. He also included his blood type and personal phone number in the post.

Miraculously, John Kim was contacted by his donor savior bearing the nickname Charger525 just a couple of days after his post was online. They exchanged the relevant information with UCI Medical Center Irvine in California. A few weeks later after all the test results were in perfect match John Kim was able to receive a kidney transplant from the living donor found on Reddit.
