An 18 year old girl fighting against cervical cancer was told that she had an STD and a series of other diseases thanks to stubborn doctors.
18 year old Jessica Bradford from the UK has cervical cancer. She diagnosed her condition herself using information on the Internet after a number of doctors refused to believe that she was suffering from cancer. At first, the medics thought Jessica had thrush and prescribed her antibiotics. This didn’t help, so she was then diagnosed with a bacterial infection. She went on to be incorrectly diagnosed with 5 different diseases, including an STD. The doctors were absolutely sure the teenager couldn’t have cervical cancer because of her age. According to UK laws, a patient needs to be at least 25 years old in order to have annual smear tests.
Now Jessica is trying to raise awareness of the problem and have the law changed so that other teens won’t have to undergo a similar nightmare.
