Hollywood’s heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal is going to star in yet another screen adaptation of a video game.
The 35 year old Gyllenhaal, who made a name for himself with projects like Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain and The Day After Tomorrow, starred in the screen adaptation of the popular Prince of Persia video game in 2010. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a failure, according to most movie critics, and while it managed to become the highest grossing movie adaptation of a video game (after surpassing Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), it actually didn’t manage to gross its budget in the US.
Now Gyllenhaal is about to star in yet another movie adaptation of a popular video game. The action packed Sci-Fi game The Division is quite popular among the fans of the third-person-shooter gameplay interface in video games. It was released back in March this year by Ubisoft under the name Tom Clancy’s The Division and it has already brought more than $330 million in sales. The video game is actually based on Tom Clancy’s novel. It’s currently Ubisoft’s best-selling video game and it’s about to be made into a movie.
The 35 year old actor will be joining the team of major Hollywood actors, who have portrayed some of Clancy’s famous characters, like Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford, and Willem Dafoe. Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the game’s movie adaptation not only as an actor, but he’ll also get to be one of the project’s producers. This will be the second movie adaptation of a popular video game, in which Gyllenhaal will be starring. In the meantime, he’s also set to appear in the thriller Nocturnal Animals later this year next to Isla Fisher, Amy Adams and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
