Countless celebrities and their stylists tried their best to look like a million bucks on the red carpet on the 24th of August, during the ceremony for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Miley, whose outfit was criticized by many, brought an unexpected date to the ceremony – a homeless man who was later identified as 22 year old Jesse Helt. He attended the event and even accepted Miley’s award for the infamous video to her hit single Wrecking Ball. He gave a short acceptance speech about what it felt to be homeless and about the thousands of people living on the streets. As it happens, Miley didn’t only take Jesse to a red velvet party, but also gave him an undisclosed amount of money in order to help him return to his home in Salem, Oregon, where his mother Linda is still living.

Linda confirmed that Jesse was indeed homeless.
