Back in the distant 1994 Matt LeBlanc had moved to New York and he had starred in 3 TV shows trying to make his big break. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. So just as he was planning to quit everything and move back to Massachusetts that fateful call came and he was picked up to portray the role of Joey Tribbiani on Friends.
The 48 year old actor shared in an interview that those weren’t bright times for him. At that point he had underwent several readings for Joey, but the final call wasn’t coming. Matt was so desperate that he thought he wasn’t going to get the part and was going to kiss goodbye his chances of becoming a successful actor. He shared that when they called him to tell him he had indeed landed the part he was left with only $11 and was willing to call it quits.
Fortunately, he didn’t quit and went on to portray one of the most lovable and iconic characters on TV. Friends span for a total of 10 seasons and it transformed LeBlanc and his co-stars Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry into some of Hollywood’s biggest household names. During the last two seasons of Friends LeBlanc reportedly received a salary of $1 million – for every single episode! And he started out with only $11 in his pocket! LeBlanc is currently starring in Showtime’s comedy series Episodes as himself, alongside Tamsin Creig, Stephen Mangan, and John Pankow, and the show was recently renewed for a 5th season.
