In case you’re not familiar with Ed Sheeran, he a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and even music producer from England. His first album, “+” (or plus) was released in 2011, so he’s been on the scene for a good amount of time.
Now he’s engaged! Using the social media platform Instagram, Sheeran happily revealed his engagement to his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn. According to him, he got engaged just before the new year. He and Cherry are happy and in love, and he also joked his cats are happy for the pair. The happy couple is already living together.
Sheeran, who is 26-years-of-age, and his now-fiancée have been together since 2015; they spent the majority of 2016 together touring the world. Sheeran had taken a year off from his musical career and chose to spend it with his lady love.
Sheeran, who won two Grammy awards in 2016, said that his break from music allowed him the opportunity to fall in love; according to him, he had never had the time to do so “properly”; he did admit, however, he gets into relationships passionately, jokingly blaming the fact he is a redhead as well as of Irish descent.
Sheeran and Cherry may only have gotten together a few years ago, but they’ve known each other a lot longer. The two met in high school. They both attended Thomas Mills in Suffolk and completed their secondary education at that institution. Cherry went on to attend university in the United States, enrolling at Duke. After getting together with Sheeran, she moved back to the United Kingdom to be with the man she will eventually marry.
In case you’re unaware, Cherry is a hockey star. With her help, England’s U21’s won a bronze medal at the European Championships in 2012. Sheeran has been known to pop into hockey clubs to watch his girlfriend—now fiancée—play her sport of choice. Cherry also played hockey while attending Duke University.
Getting engaged to the girl of his dreams was obviously a great way for Sheeran to end 2017, which was not at all a bad year for the talented musician. His latest album, ÷ (divide) was released in March and was a bonafide hit. Singles from that album broke a number of records in several countries, including Germany and Australia. One single reached number one in Australia as well as the United Kingdom. He was also recently named one of the most influential people in the United Kingdom.
Divide actually sold over 400,000 copies in just three days after it was released. His single with superstar Beyoncé was at the top of the official single chart, reaching number one in the United States.
Things weren’t always so rosy for Sheeran, however. His year off from music seemed to have been a good thing for him in more ways than one. In addition to falling in love, his time off allowed him to avoid the common pitfalls that young, successful, famous musicians often find themselves experience. He was concerned about substance abuse, so he left the music scene for a bit, and now it seems like his head is on perfectly straight and he’s doing better than ever.
As he put it, he’s unable to write or work under the influence of substances; for that reason, fans should be very glad he recognized he was on a slippery slope and pulled back. It seems as if the musician’s work ethic served him well, as his musical career is obviously very important to him—far more so than any substance or party.
He also credits his now-fiancée with his currently healthy frame of mind, saying that Cherry is a grounding influence in his life. He needed a person to “balance” him out, and living together has helped him achieve the balance he desperately needed at one point in his life not too long ago.
While we don’t know what the future has in store for Sheeran other than marriage, he has told the media he’s interested in a family. As we’ve already mention, he owns cats with Cherry, but he wants babies. “Fat, chubby babies” was the expression he actually used.
Next month, at the Brit Awards, Sheeran could possibly win several awards, including British male and British video.
In addition to being a talented singer and songwriter, Sheeran has also done a bit of acting. He has appeared as a soldier on the hit series Game of Thrones and has a recurring role on the soap opera Home and Away. He also has a role on the American drama series The Bastard Executioner.
