Once in a while, you are in the mood for something heartwarming and wholesome. That is probably why classic television shows are still so popular thirty, forty, or fifty years after they first aired. The shows today try too hard to be edgy and shocking; frankly, a lot of them are sort of depressing. A lot of them are really depressing.
However, the shows of decades past tried to uplift the spirit as well as entertain. You don’t see many shows like that being produced anymore.
Similarly, there is a lot of depressing stuff on the internet. The good news really doesn’t get reported anymore on most sites. Maybe it does, but the bad news seems to get all of the attention.
If you are looking to be uplifted, here are some wholesome images that might just put a smile on your face.
1. The Wingman

I wish I could say that I would do something like that, but I am very nervous about anyone else driving my car. Also, I know a lot of terrible drivers.
It really is a sweet story, though, and it is nice to know a simple act of friendship resulted in an engagement. I imagine the guy telling this story will be in the wedding party in some capacity. If that does not turn out to be the case, he has every right to be offended.
I don’t know where this took place, but I do know that weddings are very expensive. The wedding industry in the United States is worth roughly $50 billion. Hundreds of thousands of people work in the industry. While I don’t personally understand the point of a big wedding, it can definitely be argued that they contribute to the nation’s economy in a pretty substantial way.
In Germany, people spend less money than they do in the United States, but it is still a lot. The average cost of a wedding there is about 12,000 EUR.
2. The Car That Stalled

The story here is that a car stalled in the street and a bunch of strangers helped roll it to a safe place, which is really nice. That is a heartwarming story. If your car breaks down in the wrong place, you could be in a very dangerous situation. You could also break down in a relatively safe place, but hold up traffic. Considering how many people exhibit road rage, that is also a dangerous situation.
Situations like these are why I don’t like to drive. I have had to change tires by the side of the road, and it is a miserable experience. I have also had my car break down a few times in very inconvenient spots. Once, it broke down in front of a police station; I had already called for a tow, but it seemed like every police officer in town stopped to ask if I needed help. That was nice of them, I suppose. It was still sort of a weird experience. When you’re sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, the last thing you want to see is the face of a law enforcement officer. Such experiences, in general, are not the most positive.
3. The Tortoise Crossing the Road

It is important to watch out for the animals. It was nice of the police officer to rescue this tortoise. He was apparently in rush hour traffic, and that could have been a deadly experience.
It is kind of scary to think about what running over a tortoise could do to a car. I can’t imagine it would be a good thing.
Tortoises are neat creatures. For one, they generally live longer than most human beings. I don’t know what they are doing the entire time, but they certainly have a will to live. In general, they live between 80 and 150 years. There was one that lived over 250 years. Currently, there is one that is roughly 180 years old.
4. The Dogs and the Car Ride

This may be one of the more adorable pictures out there. It is always sort of sweet when dogs comfort one another. Generally, they just want to play with one another, at least in my experience. However, they do tend to take care of one another when times are tough. They can often sense when another dog is sick or on the verge of death, and they react appropriately.
I have a dog, and he loves car rides. Unfortunately, he insists on sitting in your lap when you try to drive. He likes looking out the window. That is one of his favorite things in the world. Fortunately, he is a tiny little thing, but it is still kind of dangerous.
5. The Random Note at the Gas Pump

It is always nice to be encouraged, and sometimes it is best to be encouraged by a stranger. If I randomly found this sticky note while fueling up my car, I would definitely smile.
Sometimes the littlest gestures really do go a long way. It sounds corny, and it definitely is, but smiles definitely do seem to be sort of contagious. If you smile at a person who is clearly not having the best day, there is a good chance he or she will smile back and then later smile at another person with whom they just happen to interact.
I do wonder what sort of person left this note. I am guessing he or she is a pretty sweet person.
6. The Reddit Users and the Garden

A garden of a Reddit user got ruined by vandals, apparently, so other Reddit users sent this stuff so that it could be rebuilt. You generally don’t expect Reddit users to be super nice, but it apparently happens once in a while.
Reddit, of course, is one of the more popular social media sites on the internet. It was founded in 2005, and it employs over 200 people. Hundreds of millions of people visit it every month, and it is one of the most visited websites in the world. It is available around the world, but most of the content is in English.
7. The People On the Plane Holding Hands

It is the sweetest thing in the world when strangers comfort one another. If more people would do that, this planet would be a much better place.
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many people out there—it seems—who do that.
I understand being afraid to fly. Statistically, planes are safer than traveling by car, but it is still sort of weird to be 30,000 feet in the air. The experience isn’t always the best, either. I know people who always get sick after a trip by plane, which makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The food, in general, is also pretty terrible. The cocktail service can be nice, sure, but you also end up paying way too much for a simple can of mediocre beer.
8. The Sunflowers

Sunflower seeds were given away at a memorial service for a woman, which is a nice thought. Not many people would use them, though. One of the children revealed that a family friend actually used the seeds to grow sunflowers, and a photo was sent.
This is truly touching and heartwarming.
The sunflowers also look great. They are a species native, primarily, to North America. They are beautiful, certainly, but they are not terribly common in gardens due to the fact they tend to spread rapidly. Therefore, they could be considered something of an invasive species.
9. The Flat Tire

Car problems really are the worst. Frankly, I can’t believe that a tire that doesn’t go flat isn’t standard on all cars these days. There are cars that can drive themselves, but tires still go flat?
Most everyone knows how to change a tire, sure. If you drive a lot, you absolutely need to know how to change a tire. Still, the process itself is pretty obnoxious, especially if it is raining or snowing.
Also, doing so takes a lot of effort. There can be a lot of upper body strength involved.
In general, it seems, poor weather conditions are when you get flat tires. That is also when bad tires are particularly dangerous.
10. The Grandfather

This is especially touching, I think. I don’t know how old the grandfather in this case is, but it is adorable that he got up extra early to shower and such for a lunch appointment with his grandchild. It seems like a bit early to get up, but the effort is noted.
Years ago, a lot of people didn’t get to know their grandparents, which was unfortunate. People died early centuries ago. If you had an infected wound, you were pretty much headed towards the grave.
However, fortunately, times have changed. These days, the average life expectancy worldwide is about 70 years. One of the highest life expectancies in the world are people from Japan. Italy and Switzerland also have pretty high life expectancies. Surprisingly enough, the United States isn’t terribly high on the list.
In terms of countries, Sierra Leone has one of the worst life expectancies in the world. That probably has a lot to do with the fact people from there regularly suffer from several diseases, including cholera and yellow fever. Also, medical care there is not the best. If you decide to visit, try very hard not to get sick.
About seven million people live in the country, which is found in West Africa, and the standard of living there is not very high. Many of the people who live in the country reside in poverty.
11. The Kid Going Off to College

Heading off to college or university is a tough time in any young person’s life. It is sort of a new beginning, and there is a lot of stress involved, but not many kids properly consider the feelings of their parents. Their lives are beginning, sure, but the parents’ lives are changing in very strange ways.
This child did consider the mom, though, and it is sweet. This note was apparently left for the mom before she drove the kid to college. How lovely to think that the child considers the mom a best friend.
The two clearly shared a very special relationship, and I doubt that a bit of distance and time apart will change anything about the relationship. If anything, it will probably only make it stronger.
12. The Metal Detector

The story here is that someone with a metal detector found a ring that had been lost. It had been lost among the rocks in the image.
The person who found it apparently answered an advertisement. Not everyone has a metal detector, after all.
The person who returned the ring said that the joy on the faces of the people to whom it was returned will never be forgotten.
13. The Puppy Break

It is sort of a shame that some people are allergic to dogs and afraid of them. Most people will agree, I think, that getting to play with a puppy is one of the best things ever.
The little girls in this nail salon seem absolutely thrilled for the puppy break, and the puppies were probably happy to see them.
How could you not be happy to see such a cute puppy?
14. The Trash

This is literally a bunch of garbage. That much is obvious.
It is also garbage removed from water as part of “Clean The Bay Day”, which has been celebrated in June for thirty years now, in order to keep the Chesapeake Bay as pristine as possible. Thousands of people from the state of Virginia contribute every year.
Why was there a chair in the water? That seems like a strange thing to toss in there.
