One of the nicest things about the internet is that it can be endlessly entertaining. There is always a funny picture or video to look at or watch. You just need to know where to search for them.
It is a golden age for entertainment, really—at least if you are a lazy person. Fifty years ago, you pretty much had to rely on network television, books, and conversing with others. Walking or driving to the library was a chore, and there really wasn’t all that much to watch on television. Your choices were pretty limited.
Fortunately, the internet came along, and now we can look at funny pictures all day long if we have the time and the desire to do so.
Here are ten examples of pictures that are hilarious and you probably weren’t expecting.
1. The Strange Museum
I do not know if I would call this a first world problem. This is definitely a problem, but I would characterize it as weird. Why was there a museum opened about that subject?
What do people look at when they go to such a museum? The answer seems obvious, but maybe I am wrong.
That must be a weird logo to see when you are walking down the street. I didn’t realize that Iceland was such a quirky country.
I have always wanted to visit Iceland, which was first settled in the 9th century. Weird museums aside, life sounds pretty good there. Roughly 350,000 people live in the country.
It is one of the most developed countries in the world, and taxes are relatively low. People from Iceland are among the healthiest in the world, probably because of their universal health care program. Infant mortality rates are very low. Income inequality is also very low.
The state church of Iceland is the Church of Iceland, although most Icelanders aren’t very religious people. It is a pretty secular country. The Church of Iceland is a Lutheran one, and it is led by the Bishop of Iceland.
The only thing that sounds bad about the country, in my opinion, is the weather. It never seems to get very warm there, and I am not a fan of the cold.
The animals of Iceland sound interesting. For example, if you visit, you might encounter an arctic fox or a reindeer. Once in a while, you might even see a polar bear.
2. The Car Accident
I hope law enforcement managed to track down and charge the person who rear-ended this young woman’s car and then sped away. That is an awful thing to do. If you cause an accident, the only decent thing to do is stick around and exchange insurance information. If you don’t, you are a jerk.
I have been rear-ended before. It was probably a decade ago, but I still get mad thinking about it. I was driving somewhere for work and some woman apparently thought I should go through a yellow light that was about to turn red. She gave me her insurance information, but she wasn’t nice about it. Fortunately, there wasn’t that much damage to my car.
I also got hit by an uninsured driver once. It was totally his fault, and he even admitted that to the police officer. I was still out $500, though, and my insurance rates went up a bit for three years. I’m still ticked off about that incident, too; nowadays, I try to drive as little as possible. I know a lot of people who really love to drive, but I’ll never understand why. It is dangerous, and doing so costs a small fortune.
3. The Pregnancy Test
This might be one of the stupidest advertisements I have ever seen. If the woman in this advertisement had not yet realized she was pregnant, she is probably too dumb to raise children. It looks like she is about to give birth any second.
It is great that home pregnancy tests are available now. Women used to have to go to doctors for that. Tests that can be taken at home weren’t available until the 1970s.
Obviously, the earlier you learn you are pregnant, the better. If you are pregnant, you’ll want to schedule a doctor’s appointment and start taking prenatal vitamins. You’ll also want to stop smoking and drinking. You should limit your caffeine intake. You should also avoid eating certain foods, such as fish that are high in mercury. Many professionals recommend avoiding deli meat, too, because of the possibility of contracting listeriosis. Contracting listeriosis during pregnancy can be fatal to the child; it can also cause meningitis and newborn sepsis.
4. The iPod Shuffle and the Warning
Was Apple actually worried that anyone would eat their iPod Shuffle? That must have happened once, right? If not, why would that warning be there? My guess is a small child put one in its mouth and choked. The parents probably sued, of course, because people seem to think companies are in the wrong when people do stupid things with their products.
Warning labels on products make me laugh, but they also irritate me a little bit. I understand that companies are trying to avoid getting sued, but enough is enough. Do you really have to warn me that my coffee may be hot and might burn my mouth? If I buy a bag of peanuts, do you really have to tell me that the product contains peanuts?
It is hard to believe the iPod has been around since the fall of 2001. There are a lot of teenagers who weren’t born when the first iPod was released. They didn’t really become popular until around 2004 or so, though, as they were expensive and only compatible with Mac computers.
The iPod shuffle is no longer sold by Apple; the company stopped selling them in July of 2017. It also stopped selling the iPod Nano. You can still buy an iPod Touch, though.
5. The Weather Guy
I am sure that I am not the only person who has wondered if news anchors are always wearing pants. Jokes have been made about the possibility that they are not wearing pants on two sitcoms—that I can think of.
If you are going to be doing the weather, though, you probably need to wear long pants. What we are looking at just is not a good look. Did this anchor not realize the lower half of his body would be seen? Also, I wonder why he took off his pants in the first place. I really have no idea what actually happened, but my guess is that he accidentally spilled coffee on his crotch.
Again, this is not a good look. The fashion lesson here is that you shouldn’t wear shorts with a dress shirt and tie unless you actually want people to laugh at you.
6. The Tragic Mistake
If I had been this young woman, I might have reconsidered getting married. The newspaper might have been trying to tell her something.
In case you are curious, the headline on this paper was about the shooting of a police officer in 2014. The officer was accidentally shot by another officer.
The young woman apparently got married in May of 2014. You sort of have to wonder if she’s still married to her husband, don’t you? That was four years ago, and I know several people who married young and were married for way less than four years. I know one guy who didn’t even manage to stay married for one year. I was surprised when I heard he was getting divorced; then again, he barely knew the woman he married, so I guess I shouldn’t have been too surprised.
The bride certainly looks happy in the picture; let’s hope she still is.
7. The Cooking Disaster
Situations like these are why I like to microwave my food. I think it is fair to say the dish in this image is ruined.
Then again, it probably wasn’t that great to begin with. I like peas and corn as part of a salad, but that’s about it.
If you are like me, you are incredibly grateful for the microwave oven. I know food doesn’t taste as good when microwaved, but they sure are convenient. I couldn’t imagine having to heat up a can of soup using a stove. I eat a lot of soup, so having to do so would be quite the hassle.
It is hard to believe that microwaves really weren’t affordable to the average consumer until the 1970s or so. My parents grew up without them, and they tell me it was awful.
Nowadays, though, you can get microwaves for next to nothing. You can get one for less than 50 dollars at some stores. That’s probably not the best microwave, but I honestly don’t know the difference between a good one and a crappy one.
Commercial microwaves can cost a small fortune, though. There is one for sale that costs over $2,700. Only restaurants need microwaves that good.
8. The Pizza Box and the Warning
This is another great example of a really dumb warning. I am assuming it is a joke, as you need to open the box a little bit in order to actually see the warning.
I wouldn’t be totally surprised, though, if the warning was legitimate. I can’t imagine what would have prompted such a warning. People do a lot of dumb things, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some kid dared his or her friend to eat a pizza box.
I once ordered pizza with bacon on it. The person behind the counter, who was taking my order, asked if I was aware that the bacon was “made from meat”. She might have been a vegan who was trying to make some sort of point. Regardless, I never went back to that pizza place. It wasn’t very good pizza, either.
9. The Nuns at the Baseball Game
I like how that one nun is drinking a beer while taking a picture with her iPhone. That is hilarious.
There are a few things about this image that confuse me, though. I have a relative who is a nun, and they take vows of poverty. It looks like this picture was taken at a Philadelphia Phillies game. I have been to several of those games, and I know how much the tickets cost. I also know how much beer at a sporting event costs.
It also looks like she is taking the picture with the phone I use. That thing was not cheap.
I am also surprised that the nuns are dressed as they are. I didn’t think nuns did that anymore. As mentioned, I have a relative who is a nun, and she wears normal, reasonably priced clothing.
I do enjoy the fact that the one is drinking beer. As far as I know, there’s nothing that prevents nuns from enjoying a cold one once in a while.
