Computers have become an irreplaceable part of our lives at home, at school and at work. Sometimes we spend so much time on them that we don’t pay attention to our tired eyes and mind. And sometimes, just sometimes, we even fall asleep over them.
In this case a bank clerk fell asleep over the keyboard at his workplace in Germany with his finger on the number 2 key. Thus, he made a transfer of €222,222,222.22 – around £189 million, to a customer. The transfer was missed by the clerk’s supervisor and could have caused the German bank a lot of money. However, before the situation became critical, another member of the bank’s staff spotted the mistake and managed to correct it.
According to a German court the supervisor shouldn’t have been fired because she had already gone through over 800 transactions on that day and she had only a few seconds for each one. Furthermore, the unnamed supervisor had been in the same bank since 1986. Overall, the court ruled that the woman should be reinstated in the bank regardless of her mistake.
