First of all, water lowers the amount of fat stored in your body. If you don’t drink enough of the life-giving liquid your kidneys get “lazy”, therefore most of the work they can’t cope up with goes to your liver. But the latter’s main function is to burn stored fat for energy so if it has to take some of the kidney’s tasks it would obviously fall behind with its own job. Hence, the more water you drink, the less fat you will store in your body.

Second, by creating a feeling of fullness water suppresses appetite. Drinking just one glass of water before a meal should prevent you from overeating. Excessive eating is one of the main causes of weight gain, so if you manage to avoid it you will not only maintain your current body weight but also lose extra pounds.


Another reason to drink plenty of water is also common knowledge but it needs pointing out : water has zero calories. All other types of beverages such as sodas, coffee, tea and beer, for example, contain a significant amount of calories therefore if you substitute at least some of them with water you will be cutting back lots of calories of your daily intake.
