Steven Spielberg finally managed to finish his degree after he dropped out of college – and it took him 34 years.
The 69 year old Spielberg is the proud owner of 3 Academy Awards, 7 Golden Globes, and tons of other prestigious awards. He also has several honorary degrees from various institutions. And while his career as a director and producer flourished in no time, his academic career is a whole other subject.
Back in the 1960s Spielberg became the youngest person to be signed at a huge Hollywood film studio as a director. At that time he was attending the California State University and he majored in English. However, his contact with Universal Studios made Spielberg drop out and focus on his directing career, which proved to be truly outstanding. 34 years after he dropped out he finally managed to finish his degree. Instead of receiving a degree in English, however, Spielberg earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts. He decided to submit his notorious Schindler’s List as a final project. Needless to say, the movie earned him the degree just like it earned 7 Academy Awards back in the early 1990s.
Spielberg submitted the project for the class of 2002 and this way finally got the chance to finish the degree he once neglected. If you take a look at his impressive achievements and awards from the 150+ titles he worked on as a producer and the 55 projects he directed, he definitely made a wise choice when he dropped out of college to work on his film career. Some of the biggest projects he’ll be working on in the near future are Transformers 5, Halo, Indiana Jones 5, a Jurassic World sequel, and several sequels of The Adventures of Tin-Tin.
