When it comes to divorcing your partner, things can get pretty messy. You might end up not only with a broken heart, but also with a huge bankruptcy.
The most expensive divorce in the history of most expensive divorces was the one of Alec Nathan Wildenstein and his ex-wife Jocelyn. Wildenstein was born in 1940 in New York. Wildenstein’s life was a combination of horse breeding, horse races, art deals and spending undisclosed amounts of money on Jocelyn’s plastic surgeries. The French billionaire and his wife wed in 1978 and their story was under the media’s scrutiny until they finally divorced in 1999. According to reports, Jocelyn caught her husband cheating and that’s when things got really ugly. Reports state that during the 2 year long process the couple had experienced jail, death threats and media outrages. Overall, Jocelyn received $2,5 billion and an additional payment of $100 million a year for the following 13 years.
Wildenstein married again in 2000. His second wife outlived him after he died in 2008 of prostate cancer. There is still no proof if the man was actually bankrupt after his divorce.
