Several years ago Iran attempted to leave its mark in the Guinness Book of World Records, but unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as planned.

The republic organized a huge event in the capital city of Tehran – the preparation and display of the largest sandwich in the world. The sandwich was to be a 1,500 meter long concoction using 1400 kg of ostrich and chicken meat. Once the preparation was done, the sandwich was to be put on display to the public. The aim wasn’t only to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, but also to encourage the citizens of Iran to eat more healthily by choosing ostrich meat. However, during the display the crowd got a little carried away and started eating the sandwich before the three official representatives of the Guinness Records had even begun to measure it.
The organizers of the event hoped that sending video and photographic footage of the preparation would still convince the Guinness Records officials that Iran had succeeded in their quest. However, the footage was deemed to be insufficient as evidence and Iran had to concede defeat in their attempt.
