Sir Ian Murray McKellen, born 25 May 1939, is an English actor. He started his career in 1959 and before playing Gandalf in “Lord Of The Rings” was well known in the British theatre.
He played Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings series directed by Peter Jackson. He got the role after Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery both turned it down. McKellen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (for the 1st film).

Last month Amazon confirmed that there will be a “Lord Of The Rings” TV series and the directors confirmed that they will offer a potential of spin-offs. Amazon confirmed that there was a deal to adapt J.R.R Tolkien’s novels.
The great news is that Sir Ian McKellen said that he wants to play Gandalf in the upcoming TV series.

He spoke on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show and when asked if it will upset him if the show have a different Gandalf, he replied with asking what other Gandalf and he stated that he didn’t say yes, because he hasn’t been asked. He also stated that Gandalf is more than 7,000 years old, so he’s not too old.
The multi-season production is HUGE news for all the fans around the world. The series are going to be produced by Amazon Studios and Tolkien Estate and Trust as well with New Line Cinema and HarperCollins (WB Entertainment).
The New LORT (Lord Of The Rings) will show all too fans new storylines.

The news is more than great and we really hope that Sir Ian McKellen will play the role. We have all gotten used to watch him as Gandalf and I personally believe he will make the series even better. I can’t wait to watch them!
