Last year she was masked as Jasmine, a fictional Disney princess, but this time, she decided to pay homage to the eternal R&B icon, Aaliyah. She chose one of the most popular looks of the singer, from her “Try again” music video.

According to many people’s opinion, Kim has gone too far this year, because Aaliyah was Afro-American and Kim is not. Her transformation is considered as offensive, as she couldn’t pay homage, considering her religion and the singer’s death.

Nevertheless, many people came to Kardashian’s defense. They didn’t see any issue, as it’s a Halloween transformation and she is free to be whoever she wants. According to her defenders, she didn’t do a blackface, so there is nothing offensive. Someone, not a Kim fan, even wrote on Twitter that the celebrity looks good and probably dressed like the singer because she loves her as everyone.

Everyone is free to express their opinion, it’s just a different point of view. Nobody is neither right nor wrong, no matter whether they are from the defenders or offenders side. Probably, Kardashian’s idea wasn’t to make a joke with Aaliyah’s memory. Two years ago on Halloween, Keke Palmer (Scream Queens actress) also paid tribute to Aaliyah with the same outfit.
