Leon Bernicoff, Of “Gogglebox” Fame, Has Died At The Age Of 83, Following A Short Illness

He was a beloved, original cast member of the wildly popular show, starting in 2013.

He passed away in the hospital earlier today, as confirmed by Channel 4 and Studio Lambert, in a statement made on behalf of the late actor’s family.

Bernicoff was a retired school teacher, and he and his wife June, also a retired teacher, both starred together on the popular television series that features people in the U.K. watching television in their homes. They give their comments and opinions on shows such a The X Factor or the news. They make jokes and pick on the actors and tv personalities as they watch. A simple concept that took off in a big way.

Channel 4 honored the star by complimenting his sharp wit and unique personality.

He was a devoted Everton fan.

One of his most famous moments on Gogglebox was when he described the UKIP leader, Nigel Farage, as being a ‘dickhead.’

Leon and June were the first to be cast as regulars on Gogglebox and the were fan favorites throughout the run of the series.

The personality and wit mentioned above are what made him so endearing to the fans. The fun bickering that only comes from a solid union helped make he and June popular with everyone. He helped solidify Gogglebox’s image a being a show full of loving humor and uncensored opinion. A reality show that is as real as it gets. They show what happens in any typical home, anywhere, on any given night in which a couple settles in for a night of watching tv.

Friends and family who knew him well say he was a fatherly man to all he knew, possessing strong principals, and these traits were present onscreen and in real life.

This is a man that will be missed on screen and off.

Leon Bernicoff was born on October 27, 1934. He met his bride to be, June, in 1955, at a dance at a college for teacher training. It was love at first sight even though their families weren’t all that supportive. They got married in 1960 and were still going strong 6 decades later.

He is survived by his loving wife, June, his daughters, Julie and Helen, sons-in-law and his grandchildren.

The family has requested privacy while they grieve and help each other through this difficult time of losing their husband, father and beloved grandfather.

Fans have taken to social media to express their condolences to the family for their great loss.
