The late actor, who passed away in 2005 at the age of 85, shared a heartwarming story in one of his last interviews. He said that the best thing he had ever done in his life was to save the life of a young fan. Doohan had received a fan letter in his mail from a girl who was about to commit suicide. He called her and told her to come to his next convention. The girl visited every single one of his conventions from that point on. Doohan talked only about positive stuff and nearly 8 years after he had received the suicide note from his fan he received another letter from her. She thanked him for saving her life and for inspiring her to continue with her studies. She also stated she had just gotten her Master’s Degree in electronic engineering.
The actor stated that the experience brought tears to his eyes each time he remembered his fan’s story.
